In this interview with Head Coach Kirby Smart he stated “We knew we had something special after we beat Notre Dame and Auburn. We just kept getting better every day and we couldn’t be more excited about tonight.” Most people will agree that playing and beating two teams like Notre Dame and Auburn in the same year is no easy task and that’s why the Dawgs will be National Champs tonight.

“I’m very excited to be able to bring this home for The University of Georgia and all the Bulldog fans around the world” says confirmed national champion Jacob Fromm. “We started this thing off with a loss at South Carolina, but winning out after that made things a whole lot sweeter.”

For the first time in 41 years, THE DAWGS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!

Congratulations to Kirby Smart on his first National Championship.

The Georgia Bulldogs are the college football national champions.

The Bulldogs started off fast, taking a 10-0 lead early in the first quarter after getting two touchdowns from Sony Michel. However, the Bulldogs soon stalled on offense as Alabama tied it up at halftime 7-7, thanks to a field goal and another Kenyan Drake touchdown run.

Alabama took their only lead of the game at 14-10 early in the third quarter, but they blew it three minutes later when Jake Fromm found Javon Wims for an incredible 75 yard pass play for a touchdown to give Georgia back the lead with plenty of time left in regulation. That seemed to demoralize Bama who was never able to get its momentum back after that and ended up tying it in regulation with a field goal to make it 17-17 and sending it to OT.

In the first overtime, Georgia won the toss and elected to play defense first. Bama strung together an impressive 14 play drive that took up 7:09 of clock time but could only get a field goal out of it, making it 20-20.

Georgia responded at 1:23 remaining when Sony Michel ran it in from 2 yards out for a touchdown putting them ahead 27-20 after Rodrigo Blankenship’s extra point was good. The Bulldogs kept Bama away from scoring their own TD on its possession by forcing two turnovers that ended any chance of a miracle comeback for Alabama.

The Tide went into the second OT with a 25 yard touchdown run by Damien Harris, his second TD of the game to make it 27-27. But before overtime could become a third time, Fromm found Terry Godwin for a 75 yard pass play that was not caught in the endzone for an incredible touch down pass with 1:49 left in OT making it 34-27.

Alabama did get one last turnover when Roquan Smith forced Jalen Hurts to fumble and Raekwon Davis recovered, but they couldn’t put anything else together at this point as Jake Fromm threw the final interception of his career on 4th down. And thus, Kirby Smart ends his first year as head coach of the Bulldogs with a National Championship!

Older news

They might not be able to bring a SEC title back to Athens, but the Georgia Bulldogs can claim a national championship for the first time sine 1980. Thanks to a dominating National Championship performance from true freshman quarterback Jake Fromm and one of the greatest defenses in college football history, the Dawgs beat out Alabama 26-23 in overtime. This is also Kirby Smart’s first year as head coach of The University of Georgia…can you say job well done!!!

Georgia head coach Vince Dooley was later presented with the MacArthur Bowl by then NCAA president John Heismaan at a special ceremony on January 8, 1984 after leading his team to a 12-0 regular season record and 3 straight conference championships.
